Disability: Cerebral Palsy (CP)

Cerebral palsy (CP) may be diagnosed at birth or be due to brain injury resulting in muscular spasms or a lack of control of movement. Those who have Ataxia may have difficulties with balance, jerky hand movements and unclear irregular speech patterns. With Athetoid Cerebral Palsy the speech tends to be slurred and movements poorly controlled. Spasticity can also occur making movements stiff and weak. The degree of cerebral palsy that affects mobility and dexterity varies enormously so individuals may use a wheelchair and a communication aid or just have some difficulties manipulating small objects and running in a coordinated fashion.
